Since 2002, Felines & Friends New Mexico has given second chances to over 5,000 cats and kittens!

Felines & Friends New Mexico is a no kill, 501(c) 3 non-profit rescue and placement organization providing second chances for homeless cats and kittens. Many of the cats that come our way are in need of socialization or vet care, have been saved from Trap/Neuter/Return projects, or are owner surrenders.

As a "Second Chance" Organization, FELINES & FRIENDS NEW MEXICO works with the community and local shelters by accepting homeless cats, such as kittens who are too young for placement or need to be socialized, adults who have lost their person or their home, and cats (whether stray or surrendered) with health or behavioral issues which can often be resolved with loving attention and time. We are proud to work with other rescue organizations to place as many animals as possible and give "second chances" to those with special needs. To date, we have found homes for over 5,000 cats and dogs thanks to the support of the Petco Foundation and people like you. READ MORE about our mission.

Success Story

Free-Roaming Moms find their Forever Home

Santa Fe New Mexican, January 10, 2024

Almost three years ago, a cat and her 1-day-old kittens were transferred from Roswell to Felines & Friends. In August 2022, another cat and her 4-day-old kittens also came to F&F from Artesia. Named Roza and Althea by volunteers, both of the mothers were less than 1 year old when they gave birth. All but one of their kittens was quickly adopted. Only Alocasia remained in the care of F&F as a feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) survivor.

Roza, a Maine Coon mix, was wary of people but slowly began warming up to treats from volunteers. After Althea, another Maine Coon arrived, the two were soon found snuggled together in bed and grooming one another. The pair spent the next year together at F&F, napping and quietly playing with one another.

Several adopters, seeking a Maine Coon, applied for either Roza or Althea before realizing they were not just fluffy lap cats. Then one day, Roza and Althea’s luck changed. The Dobeshes came along…
