For over 30 years, Santa Fe Cats has been providing premium boarding for cats and pocket pets and since November 2014, has been managed by Felines & Friends to benefit our mission. www.santafecats.com
The New Mexico Chapter of FELINES & FRIENDS was formed in 2001 and registered with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission in March 2002. In 2013 we became FELINES & FRIENDS NEW MEXICO.
FELINES & FRIENDS is an all-volunteer rescue and placement organization providing second chances for shelter cats in need of more time or vet care, kittens from Trap/Neuter/Return projects. We do not have a physical shelter and rely mainly on foster homes when cats are not on display at our Adoption Center located inside Petco on Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe. However, cats who prefer not to be moved around, are housed at our boarding facility.
Raising funds to provide the best care for orphaned cats is an on-going concern. We do not receive any government funding. One hundred percent of our revenue is generated from adoption fees, grants, and donations. We are always seeking private and corporate benefactors.
FELINES & FRIENDS is a non-profit corporation registered and in good standing with the NM Secretary of State, NM Attorney General’s office, and the IRS.

As a "Second Chance" Organization, FELINES & FRIENDS NEW MEXICO works with the Santa Fe and Espanola shelters by accepting special needs cats, such as kittens who are too young for placement or need to be socialized, and adults who have health or behavioral issues, most of which can be resolved with loving attention and time.
We are proud to work with other shelters and rescue organizations to place as many animals as possible and give "second chances" to those with special needs. To date, we have found homes for over 4,000 cats and dogs thanks to the support of the Petco Foundation and people like you.
Please visit our Adoption Center located at Petco in Santa Fe during regular store hours. In addition, please come meet special cats at Teca Tu @ DeVargas.
It is an understatement to say, 2020 was a difficult year for all of us.
When COVID-19 changed our world, Felines & Friends, and its volunteers, immediately stepped up to help hundreds of at risk cats and kittens in our community. While other shelters significantly reduced their services for abandoned and displaced companion animals due to COVID, Felines & Friends continued its mission.
Shutdowns due to COVID have affected all of us in many ways. When operations at our Adoption Center inside Petco had to suddenly be suspended in March, all the cats were safely transported to Santa Fe Cats until additional foster homes could be secured.
At the end of May, over 60 kittens and young cats were transferred from shelters in Southern New Mexico where they were scheduled to be euthanized. Many of them required additional vet care or socialization that traditional shelters cannot afford in resources or time.
In June, we accepted more cats from shelters. In July, we facilitated the rescue of 9 cats and a dog left behind when their human suddenly passed away from heart failure.
None of these rescues could have been accomplished without a physical facility. Our mission is in jeopardy, if we don’t find financial support to purchase our current Boarding Hotel - Santa Fe Cats, which houses our shelter.
WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW
Santa Fe Cats has been managed by Felines & Friends since late 2014. The current
owners of the property now wish to sell the premier boarding hotel and settle into full retirement.
Since 2002, Felines & Friends has made a significant impact on the lives of the cats & kittens in our community. To date over 4,000 have been rescued and in 2020 we found homes for over 200. Despite these efforts, the organization receives no government funding and little recognition from the shelters from which it accepts cats.
Instead we rely on grants and support from our community. That is why your support is so crucial at this time.
Thanks to generous supporters like you, we have now raised just over $350,000 and met the deadline of December 31st, 2020 to commit to purchasing the premises. We need another $200,000 to finalize the acquisition before the end of April, 2021.
We are asking everyone to share our Capital Campaign via e-mail with anyone who you think might be interested in helping Felines & Friends reach our goal.
If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation from your IRA, please mail a check drawn on that account to:
