Our Mission

Felines & Friends is dedicated to rescuing and placing pets in need of a second chance; working towards zero pet overpopulation by facilitating low-cost spay/neuter; and improving the lives of both companion animals and their owners through on-going education.

In recent years, significant strides have been made in reducing the euthanasia rate of dogs and cats all across the nation. FELINES & FRIENDS plays an important role in this effort by supporting community TNR efforts, spaying/neutering and then rehoming unaltered stray and surrendered cats, and (through collaboration with local shelters) rehoming otherwise homeless or special needs cats and kittens. Since its formation in 2002, FELINES & FRIENDS has gained a reputation in Northern New Mexico for its proactive work in the pairing of cats and their humans. To date, we have placed over 5,000 cats (and dogs) into loving homes.

FELINES & FRIENDS utilizes a comprehensive adoption screening process to enhance the fit between pet and their adoptive family. The organization also maintains a strict return policy if ownership commitment cannot be met. All FELINES & FRIENDS cats are FeLV/FIV tested, current on FVRCP vaccinations, micro chipped, and spayed or neutered. If old enough, they are vaccinated against rabies as well. We have a modest shelter at our boarding facility, Santa Fe Cats, and rely mainly on foster homes when cats are not on display at our Adoption Center located inside Petco on Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe. We also have cats inside a habitat at Teca Tu at the DeVargas Center.

Raising funds to provide the best care for orphaned cats is an on-going concern. We do not receive any government funding. One hundred percent of our revenue is generated from adoption fees, grants, and donations. We are always seeking private and corporate benefactors.

The New Mexico Chapter of FELINES & FRIENDS was formed in 2001 and registered with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission in March 2002. In 2013 we became FELINES & FRIENDS NEW MEXICO. We are a non-profit corporation registered and in good standing with the NM Secretary of State, NM Attorney General’s office, and the IRS [EIN 27-4453623]. Our City of Santa Fe Professional Animal Care Permit is #23-001.
